IT’s a long way from Perth’s suburbs to the Big Apple. For teenage supermodel Gemma Ward, the journey has been as much financial as it’s been geographical.

Manhattan-based Ward has vaulted into the world’s top 10 earning models, raking in $3.4 million a year according to US magazine Forbes.

“She’d easily be Australia’s biggest international success in modelling today,” her Sydney agent and Viviens Model Management general manager Catherine McGill said.

Vogue’s Youngest Cover Girl Buys East Village Three-Bedroom for $1.52 M

Source

Way back in a more grubby and innocent era of downtown New York, supermodels didn’t buy many combined-unit East Village apartments. But those days are long gone, so it’s hardly surprising that Gemma Ward, American Vogue’s youngest-ever cover girl, has bought a three-bedroom co-op on East Sixth Street between Second and Third avenues that was originally three units.

According to city records, she paid $1.525 million. Only two and a half years ago, gallingly, an apartment two floors up sold for $290,000.

Indeed, the building hasn’t always been a million-dollar place. “It was one of these East Village tenement things,” said listing broker Karen Donica, the younger half of mother-daughter realty firm Custom Brokers. But a cement backyard was dug up and greened, and now “there are lanterns in the garden and beautiful planting… People just go down there and have a drink, and read a book.”

Gemma’s Mumbai Magic

Source

Patrick Demarchelier shoots Vogue India’s first cover girl.

(NEW YORK) Gemma Ward’s magazine cover streak continues. In 2005, the Aussie racked up four Vogue covers, appearing on the inaugural cover of Vogue China; Australia Vogue¡¦s teen spin-off, Vogue Girl, in May; French Vogue¡¦s October cover; and the December issue of Vogue Australia shot by Patrick Demarchelier. Now photographer and model have reunited once again for the debut issue of Vogue India, which is expected to bow in September. Demarchelier confirmed Sunday night at a CFDA dinner hosted by Nadja Swarovski at Top of the Rock that he had just returned from India, where he shot the 19-year-old for the cover and well story. “It has an angelic twist,” Demarchelier hinted. The title, to be based in Mumbai, will mark the 17th edition of Vogue worldwide.

Gemma of Perth leads Australian beauties down red carpet at Cannes

Source

Perth’s Gemma Ward has headed up a glamorous group of Australian beauties on the red carpet at the 60th Cannes Film Festival.

A guest of French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld, Ward wore a stunning floor-length strapless gown for the premiere of French film Le Scaphandre et Le Papillon. She picked up the dress during a recent trip to India where the supermodel shot the first ever cover of new magazine Indian Vogue, and another for British Vogue.

Australian film star Toni Collette, who is on the festival’s Palme d’Or jury for the first time, joined Ward at the premiere looking gorgeous in a halter-neck dress with her hair slicked back, while Australia’s most famous “body”, Elle Macpherson, wore a slinky black number.

Liv Tyler on Gemma Ward: “Fantastic”

Source

When we ran into Liv Tyler at the Free Arts benefit, we knew we’d have just a few seconds with the actress, who’s also a face of Givenchy and a new-ish mom. Naturally, our thoughts turned to The Strangers, Liv’s upcoming thriller film that has Gemma Ward in a smaller supporting role.

And so we asked…

Liv, what was it like working with Gemma Ward?
Oh Gemma? She’s great! When she came to the set, she was working with Nicole Kidman’s acting coach - not just for Nicole, actually; her coach works with a lot of great actors. And Gemma just came on and did a really great job when the cameras were on. You could see she worked really hard for it.

Was it fun having another really tall girl on the set?
Sure, and she’s beautiful…

Yeah, we know. It’s distracting. But we can’t wait for the film.
The film is going to be great, and the thing with Gemma is, she was so professional. She’s fantastic.

We’re not sure anything can top Liv’s star turn in Empire Records, but still, we have high hopes for Gemma and also for this movie, which sounds very spooky (in a chic way)…

George Clooney in his hey day (admit it ladies, he is starting to look a bit weathered these days) could make most girls swoon with his smooth slick look. Well after taking a peek at the latest Vanity Fair cover, which also features Aussie model, Gemma Ward, Clooney does it again.
